Kolarov stunner seals Serbia win

  1. Aleksandar Kolarov's second-half free-kick gives Serbia all three points
  2. Costa Rica's five-game World Cup unbeaten run comes to an end

Serbia edged Costa Rica 1-0 after Aleksandar Kolarov scored the third direct free-kick of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™. In a firmly challenged duel at the Samara Arena, with the two groups making a few goalscoring possibilities, it was Serbia's day, as the Orlovi put a valuable three focuses on the board.

Group journalist analysis
Diego Picado with Costa Rica
Costa Rica had openings in the main half and they didn't exploit them. In the second half, Serbia were more sure and scored the conclusive objective. This diversion was about adequacy and exactness and a few players of Costa Rica did not have that this time. Their aggressors were disengaged during the time half and they didn't make enough chances to score. This was a chess coordinate that Serbia won.

Sonja Nikcevic with Serbia
On the pitch today, Serbia did precisely what they guaranteed in the development to the match. They played like a group, covering positions for each other, they didn't disparage their rival and they didn't get captured in the headlights of playing in a first World Cup coordinate in eight years. The group's blend of forcefulness and inventiveness in midfield was the main impetus of the win, with the foul that prompted Kolarov's free-kick victor coming after a roused Milinkovic-Savic run.

Budweiser Man of the Match
Aleksandar Kolarov thought of the conclusive snapshot of the match, as he struck home an impeccable free-kick to give Serbia a significant three focuses in their Group E opener.

The detail
4 - Serbia's last four World Cup wins have been by the score of 1-0. Prior to the present match, Serbia's last three World Cup wins (counting when they played as Yugoslavia) were won by that scoreline: v Germany in 2010, v IR Iran and USA in 1998.

What's straightaway
Brazil v Costa Rica – Group E, 22 June, St. Petersburg
Serbia v Switzerland – Group E, 22 June, Kaliningrad
